Displaced by fighting since May 2023, she has sought refuge at the Omar Haj Musa site for internally displaced persons—a former school—which currently houses 400 families. Aleppo, Syria, Sharif was displaced to A’zaz in northern Aleppo and lived in a camp for seven years. He is still not able to return to his hometown As-Safira, also in Aleppo, because it was damaged during war. Syria is entering a new chapter with a new Government and despite the very difficult circumstances he face, Sharif embodies resilience: “I feel joy as this is the first Eid Al-Fitr in a long time when we can move freely without constraints or fear”.
