SITUATION UPDATE
At least two million people in northern Mozambique need life-saving and life-sustaining humanitarian assistance and protection in 2023 in Cabo Delgado, Nampula and Niassa as a result of the continued impact of armed conflict, violence and insecurity in the region. In 2023, the Humanitarian Response Plan (HRP) in northern Mozambique seeks U$513 million to target 1.6 million people. A total of 41 humanitarian organizations coordinate through the HRP framework to assist people in need. Between January and April, approximately some 1.1 million people were reached with some form of humanitarian assistance. The Food Security and Livelihoods Cluster reports the highest level of achievements (97 per cent). In April, food aid distribution was completed with half-rations (March-April cycle). Food assistance was increased in the northern district of Quissanga, Muidumbe, Nangade, Macomia, Mocimboa da Praia and Palma to meet the needs of returnee population. At the end April 2023, the HRP was 20 per cent funded having received $100 million. Funding imbalances among clusters persist; at mid-year the Health Cluster has secured 44 per cent of its requirements while funding level for remaining clusters range from zero (Camp Coordination and Camp Management) to 33 per cent (Shelter and NFIs Cluster). The humanitarian team in Mozambique has agreed to include in the response dashboard information on people reached through projects not included in the HRP but aligned to its strategic objectives. In April, information is available for the FSL and Nutrition clusters.
