SITUATION UPDATE

At least two million people in northern Mozambique need life-saving and life-sustaining humanitarian assistance and protection in 2023 in Cabo Delgado, Nampula and Niassa as a result of the continued impact of armed conflict, violence and insecurity in the region. In 2023, the Humanitarian Response Plan (HRP) in northern Mozambique seeks U$513 million to target 1.6 million people. A total of 41 humanitarian organizations coordinate through the HRP framework to assist people in need. During the first two months of the year, approximately some 900,000 people were reached with humanitarian assistance. The Food Security and Livelihoods Clusters reports the highest level of achievements (74 per cent) followed by Camp Coordination and Camp Management (45 per cent) and Nutrition (42 per cent). Achievements by remaining clusters range between one per cent (Protection) to 12 per cent (Health). At the end February 2023, the HRP was 12 per cent funded having received $62 million. Funding imbalances among clusters persist, three clusters, Coordination and Common Services, Food Security and Livelihoods and Nutrition have secured at least 15 per cent of their requirements while other clusters are less than five per cent funded.
